Sunday Mornings
Nursery

Open to kids through 2 years old, our nursery is stocked with toys for kids to play with and books to read to them. In the nursery, we maintain a ratio of at least 1 volunteer to 4 kids. Our volunteers are well-trained regular attenders of Walnut Creek who have passed a background check.

Sunday Mornings
Kids Class

We offer kids classes during the Sunday morning service for children ages 3 through 1st grade. Each classroom is led by a teacher and one or two assistant teachers who work together to teach kids the Bible through a curriculum called The Gospel Project, created by Lifeway.

The Kids Class Process

Joining us for the first time? Here’s what you can expect when participating in kids ministry at Walnut Creek Altoona.

  • What should I expect?

Our goal is to provide a fun, safe environment in an age appropriate classroom. We currently offer Nursery (infant-2 years), a class for Pre-K (ages 3-4) and a class for Kindergarten-1st grade.

  • Your First Visit

Stop at the Check-In Center located in the lower level where our kids classrooms are located. There, we will gather your information and any special instructions you may have for your child.

  • Checking-In and Check-Out Process

You can drop off your child in the lower level of the church, where a volunteer will be standing by the Check-In Center to help answer any questions. Our check-in system will print a name tag sticker for your child and you’ll receive a unique security label that you’ll need to pick up your child after the service has concluded.

  • Who will be teaching the classes?

All of our Kids Ministry Volunteers have gone though a Volunteer Onboarding Process - including application, checked references, background check, completion of Ministry Safe Sexual Abuse training modules, and an interview. This process is in place to ensure a safe environment for your child.

  • What do you teach?

For the Pre-K and K-1st classrooms we use The Gospel Project. Each week we dive deep into God's redemptive story to save His people from their sins through His Son, Jesus Christ. We offer a fun, safe environment for your kids to learn about the bible from Genesis to Revelation through games, crafts, and biblical lessons.

  • Health policy for Nursery/Kids Classes

To ensure the health of every child, we ask that you keep your child with you during the service if you suspect your child has a serious communicable illness or disease.

    A few things to consider:

    • Have they had a fever in the past 24 hours?
    • Have they vomited or had diarrhea in the past 24 hours?
    • Do they have a severe cold or cough?
    • Do they have green or yellow mucus?
    • Are there any unexplained rashes or inflammations of the skin?
    • Is there any redness or discharge from the eyes?
